This area involves 5 boroughs: Bussi, Monte RotondoCastiglione a Casauria, Popoli, and Tocco in the Pescara neighbours: Corfinio in the Province of L'Aquila (approximately 1500 ha wide) is one of the last spurs of the Gran Sasso and the first mountains of the Morrone. The river Pescara runs in the narrow gorge that divides the two mountain chains creating the proper conditions for an uncommon vegetation. In the termophile area, up to 900 mts, it is possible to find Holm-oak and the Pubescent oak; here vegetate some typical species of Mediterranean maquis such as the Redbud, the Ophris tenthredinifera, an orchid brightly colored, and the Phillyrea. In this reserve there are few elements of the Wolf, Wild Cat, Wild Boar, Golden Eagle and Rock Partridge. While the breeding of Deers, run by the Administration of the State Forest, is oriented to reintroduce these animals in other reserves and parks. The breeding of Wild Boars and Fallow Deers represents an alternative source of meat.
