Reserves and natural oasis
Gorges of Salinello

This reserve is approximately 800 ha wide and it is part of the territories of Civitella del Tronto and Valle Castellana in the province of Teramo. These boroughs run it all together. The area is made by a narrow gorge where the River Salinello runs between the Montagna di Campli and the Montagna dei Fiori rich of winding ravines and caves the most famous of which is the Grotta di S. Michele Arcangelo. The naturalistic heritage of this area is interesting. In the Beech woods it is possible to find some Badgers; in the termophilous area there are plants of Pubescent oak, Hazel, Holm-oak and Manna ash. Particularly rich is also the fauna. Among the Amphibia there is the Italian Earth-Newt. There are some birds of prey such as the Golden Eagle, the Sparrowhawk, the Peregrine and the Kestrel. At higher altitudes live the Rock Partridge and the Chough, in the woods live the Short-toed Treecreeper, the Bullfinch and some nocturnal birds of prey such as the Tawny Owl, and the Eagle Owl. Among the Mammals there are the Red Squirrel, the Badger, the Weasel, the Beech Marten and the Fox.
