Reserves and natural oasis
Foro Valley

It is very interesting from a vegetation and floral point of view, it is 472 ha in the Valley of the river Foro in the borough of Pretoro in the province of Chieti within the Majella Park. The Reserve is characterized by a large Beech wood where it is possible to find trees of Maple, Sorb, Lime and Scotch elm. During springtime, the underwood is covered by blossoms of Corydalis solida, Snowdrop, Alpine squill, Hepatica along with many species of Ferns, Musks and Lichens. The Bullfinch, the Marsh Tit, the Bonelli's Warbler and the Wood Warbler are few of the numerous birds that find refuge and food in the beech wood. Interesting is the presence of the White-backed Woodpecker, which is very rare and that testifies the integrity of these woods. Among the birds of prey there are the Buzzard, the Goshawk and the rare and big Eagle Owl. The Mammals are here represented by the Pine Marten, the Squirrel, the Roe Deer and by the Wolf. Among the Amphibians there is the Salamander and the Spectacled Salamander.
