This reserve was created in 1989 in order to protect the existing different biotopes. In fact, in the piedmont area there is a spontaneous repopulation of the termophil vegetation; in the Vallone d'Angri the variety of trees and shrubs is even richer. There are many Maples that in Fall create a wonderful landscape with the different colors in which their leaves turn. In the Canalone di Fonno there are trees of Limes, Yaws, Ash and Cornel-tree. In the glades there are plants of Sorb and May-blossom. Particularly interesting is the floral heritage of this area: the Gentian, the Blue wood anemone, the Narcissus poeticus and the Gymnadenia conopsea (a species of spontaneous Orchid) grow here. Also the fauna is very rich in this area. Interesting is to see the Roe Deer, the Wolf, the Beech Marten, the Weasel, the Red Squirrel. Numerous are the birds of prey: the Golden eagle, the Peregrine, the Buzzard. The reserve interests the borough of Brittoli, Carpineto della Nora, Civitella Casanova, Farindola, Montebello di Bertona, Villa Celiera - in the province of Pescara - Villa S. Lucia and Ofena in the province of L'Aquila. There are many recreational facilities such as the cross-country skiing, the possibility of tracking/hiking, the hang gliding, the free climbing and also the bird-watching. Since this area is not run by anybody, it can be freely visited always respecting the nature preservation and conservation. |
